Saved to Serve Women Assist Nebraska Program

#

Twenty-six women from the Nebraska Synod Women of the ELCA Saved to Serve group spent a May weekend helping Mosaic in Grand Island (Nebraska) accomplish maintenance and decorating projects, including staining and sealing an outdoor room, removing wallpaper, painting, and landscaping. In addition, the women brought 31 quilts for residents of Mosaic, made and donated tactile pillows, re-upholstered a swing cushion and donated many boxes of household supplies and toiletries.

"It is absolutely amazing to me what these 26 women ended up accomplishing," said TeriLyn Bielke, Community Relations Manager for Mosaic. "These ladies ran this weekend like it was a business and I was extremely impressed."

The women slept on cots at Mosaic's vocational site, and showered at a local church. In addition to the volunteer work, the women held Bible studies and spent time interacting with Mosaic clients through games and social activities.

"They kept thanking me for giving them this opportunity," Bielke said. "I couldn't tell them thank you enough."
