Background Nearly three years ago, Mosaic embarked on a journey to create a new way to approach public policy issues as they relate to persons with disabilities around the globe. At that time, the concept of creating a "center" was formulated with the purpose of building key strategic partnerships to guide the vision and direction of its work. In August of 2007, Mosaic established the Mosaic Collaborative for Disabilities Public Policy and Practice. Its vision is to help promote full and equitable inclusion and integration of people with disabilities and their families in their communities. The word "Collaborative" rather than "Center" was chosen to highlight the cooperative nature of our work since it is only through local, national, and global partnerships that our goals can be achieved. Strategic Partnerships The Mosaic Collaborative works with diverse community partners around the world to promote social justice for people who have disabilities through research, learning opportunities, and public policy initiatives. Working together, these partners contribute their expertise, resources, and time to changing the way our world's policies are shaped when it concerns disability issues. Gallup and CQL (The Council on Quality and Leadership) have partnered with the Mosaic Collaborative to play a significant role in guiding our future work. The expertise they bring will help us produce projects of national and international significance, resulting in evidence-based data which can be used by stakeholders to advocate for better public policies that affect the lives of people with disabilities and their families. Project-Based Partnerships The Mosaic Collaborative also builds project-based partnerships with advocacy organizations, colleges/universities, non-profit organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders for the purpose of having a focused approach towards a particular disability issue or project. Research projects with universities, joint publications with advocacy organizations, demonstration projects with states, and internship placements for college students are just a few examples of how the Mosaic Collaborative seeks out new partners in our quest to provide evidence-based solutions for individuals, families, professionals in the disabilities field, and policymakers. |
