Gabi in the group home, September 2006
Gabi's story

Gabriel (Gabi) was first identified by our partners in the early fall of 2005. He has hydrocephely and was never treated. He was confined to his crib in the institution for the first five years of his life. When we met Gabi, he couldn't sit, crawl, walk or talk. Mosaic staff had the opportunity to meet Gabi and hold him in the institution.

A couple months later, just before Christmas, Gabi was removed from the institution and brought to one of the group homes. He has thrived with all the love, attention and therapy. The staff might even say he's a bit spoiled ...

Gabi has made a lot of progress. His balance has improved; he walks with the support of a walker made especially for him; he stands by the table; and walks along holding on to the wall or someone's hand.

If he sees something interesting, he finds a way to get there to get it. His small motor skills have also improved. He can take off his clothes by himself, but needs help dressing. He is also learning to feed himself.

Our partners are in the process of identifying and training a new foster family for Gabi.
