Cristina's story
When a team of social workers and educators from Mosaic found Cristina lying in a crib four years ago, she was living in a Romanian institution for orphans and children with disabilities in conditions few of us can imagine. She was seven years old, sleeping in an overcrowded room with many other children, with very few staff to care for her. She was confined to her crib and had little or no contact with others. She was unable to walk, talk or communicate in any way. The staff at the institution said her condition was hopeless.

Cristina was placed in one of our group homes in January 2003. With consistent physical therapy, care and love, she now walks, attends a day center, feeds and dresses herself and responds to people with a smile. She loves to listen to music and dance.
Cristina was baptized into the Romanian Orthodox Church, with staff volunteering to be her Godparents.
