Kids in Romania

Mosaic's work in Romania has been very rewarding. Beginning in 2002, Mosaic staff, along with partners in the IMPACT alliance, have been working with staff at Motivation Romania in bringing children who have disabilities out of state-run institutions into community-based homes. The children are brought into one of the three small group homes where they receive medical and therapeutic services, along with something they've never had caring, loving staff.

To date 36 children have been removed from the institutions, and fourteen of the children are living with caring host families. There are still thousands of children remaining in the horrible conditions of the institutions. Your help is needed to assure that we are able to continue giving children the opportunity to live outside the institutions.

There are occasional opportunities for small groups to visit the project to learn first-hand about the remarkable work being done.  If you have an interest in learning more about this opportunity, contact us.

Habitat for Humanity Volunteers Build a Home for Motivation

This past summer, Habitat for Humanity International started the construction of a duplex home in Clinceni, Romania for Motivation Romania. This fall, a group of 76 volunteers from Vodafone gathered on a chilly morning, clad in red Habitat helmets and coveralls, ready for a day of work on the project. When completed, four young adults who came to Motivation from an institution as young children will move in with four wheelchair users as their house mates. Shaw Trust from the U.K. and our international alliance, IMPACT, shared the cost of the land. Vodafone contributed 110,000 Euros (approximately $150,000 US) for materials. The young adults who will be moving from the group homes were able to participate with the volunteers in building their new home.
