People with disabilities are counting on you

Thank you for your advocacy

I’m asking pleading begging for you to call your U.S. Senators and ask them to VOTE NO on the BCRA since its bad for people with disabilities. (Find the phone number and some comments you can use here.)

Elected officials carry the burden of making tough decisions. The outcomes of which have clear winners and losers. The U.S. Senate is currently considering the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA, their version of the House’s AHCA) which will have many more losers than it does winners.

People with disabilities and anyone who relies or will rely on Medicaid will be negatively impacted by the BCRA. Fun fact: most Americans are either covered by the program themselves, know someone in their family who is covered, or will be covered at some point in their lives.

Here’s why I’m begging for your help in calling U.S. Senators:

  • The provisions contained in the legislation and the process surrounding its consideration are harmful.
  • The BCRA will cut funding for our nation’s most vulnerable, limit access to critical disability services, significantly reduce home and community-based services, and cause more people with disabilities to go without critical services and supports. In addition, the BCRA will affect 1/6th of the economy, which will impact all communities throughout our nation.
  • The BCRA has not had one single public hearing. It’s an affront to our democracy to consider significant legislation impacting millions of Americans behind closed doors. Public involvement in a transparent legislative process yields beneficial public policy.
  • Hearing from constituents like you is the only forum where U.S. Senators will be learning from qualified people who can speak directly to the impacts the BCRA will have on people with disabilities.
  • The BCRA is not about political affiliation or ideology, controlling spending, or insurance markets; it’s about people. It’s about the millions of Americans depending on Medicaid as their only option for a healthcare program. It’s about people with disabilities who deserve dignity to live a meaningful life.

If you care about people and ensuring all Americans have the opportunity to pursue life, liberty, and happiness, then you will call your U.S. Senators and ask them to vote NO on the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA).

More information about the AHCA and the phone numbers and suggested call message for your Senators are available on Mosaic’s Action Center.
