Carolyn and Albert are a couple served by Mosaic in Southeast Texas and have been married for 23 years. They enjoy living in a home they call their own. It took a long time for them to be able to own a home after renting for many years. It was a proud moment when they finally saved up enough and got the mortgage approved to get their own place 10 years ago. They enjoy having plenty of room in their house, storage space, being able to have and care for their three dogs, and having a yard where they can grow vegetables and flowers.
In the past year, they have noticed deterioration of the carpet in their house from wear and tear. Since Carolyn and Albert both live on a meager salary with assistance from state and local governments, they didn’t have the means to pay for replacing the carpet. Upon request, Mosaic staff stepped in and found support through the City of Bryan Development Fund’s Minor Repair Assistance Program.
Through this program, Albert and Carolyn were able to apply for a grant of up to $5,000. In addition, once a grant is approved, the Development Fund helps set up contractors to install new hardwood or tile floors. The couple was able to access supports available to them by voicing their needs to Mosaic and sharing them with the community. The future is looking bright to complete this project and get Carolyn and Albert the home repairs they need.
