After saying a fond farewell to 6-year director Mark Wester in March of
2011, Mosaic in Colorado Springs began a search for a new visionary
leader. Luckily we didn't have to look far! Effective June 1, Tom
Maltais who had served as Associate Director for the past 2 years, was
named the new Executive Director of our agency.
During his time
as Associate Director and Interim Executive Director, Tom added to the
vast professional expertise he brought to Mosaic by eagerly and
quickly learning the ins and outs of developmental disabilities
services in Colorado. Having begun his career serving our country in
the Army, he performed his duties in locations ranging from Bogota to
Kosovo and North Africa before leaving the military to complete his
education at the University of Nebraska. Tom holds bachelors degrees
in Business Management and History. After September 11, 2001, he was
called back to active duty and served in both Afghanistan and Iraq
until 2003. After the military, Tom became a business consultant,
serving several corporations before accepting the position of Director
of Operations at Token Foods in Philadelphia, PA. Tom felt called to
serve in the nonprofit industry and joined the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Society of Philadelphia where he served as Operations Director
before being promoted to Associate Director. In 2009, Tom moved to
Colorado to be closer to family and has been an invaluable asset to
the Colorado Springs Agency since that time.
