Joe's Car Wash

Joe busy washing cars.

Everyone has a dream. Some are more simple than others, but they all share the common notion of fulfilling something worthwhile to a given individual. For Joe, nothing was more worthwhile than seeing his neighborhood car wash expand to include more of the community that is so dear to him. With the help of Mosaic in Connecticut and local community members, he saw his dream become a reality at Joe's Car Wash for Mosaic. It was Joe's wish that all car wash proceeds would be donated to Mosaic's Wishes and Dreams Fund. Through fulfilling his dream, Joe wanted to help others in service with Mosaic achieve their dreams as well.

Many of the residents of West Hartford, Conn. are familiar with Joe. When he is not spending time at the Dunkin Donuts down the street from his group home, Joe is up and about in the community visiting local businesses and friends. He is a friendly, gentle, and caring man who enjoys stopping to say hello to residents who frequent West Hartford's downtown Blue Back Square.

When Joe expressed his dream of having a local car wash, Mosaic in Connecticut did everything possible to see his dream fulfilled. The core values of Mosaic center around us providing a life of possibilities for the individuals we serve. From allowing them to chose where they want to live to helping them to develop their life goals, we help those in service define their own happiness and become a guiding force to help them achieve that happiness in whatever form it may be.

The car wash took place on a beautiful Saturday in June at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford. Thirty local high school students from the Hall High School Community Service Club who took on Joe's Car Wash for Mosaic as their project for the semester helped plan the event alongside Mosaic. The students were there washing cars, taking donations and attracting attention for the event. Their partnership as well as donations from the local community contributed to the event's success. By the end of the day over one hundred cars were washed and $1,200 was raised for Mosaic's Wishes and Dreams Fund!

Looking past the physical gains of the car wash, the success of Joe's Car Wash for Mosaic is truly based on Joe's overwhelming happiness that day. Joe could not stop smiling seeing the support he received for his car wash. He spent the day greeting community members and helping the students wash the cars as well while continuously expressing his thanks. By the end of the day was even speaking of more dreams he had that would continue to reach out to his community.

Mosaic is continuously helping to celebrate the successes of those who we serve. We are celebrating! When Joe asked for our support of his dream we helped make it a reality. Joe's Car Wash for Mosaic is a wonderful example of how Mosaic continues to support individuals and their various wishes and dreams.
