Make Healthy Lives Happen
This year, Mosaic in Dallas will fall approximately $40,000 short in meeting the costs of medical and dental needs of individuals in our service. Your gift is needed to help Mosaic cover the costs of the medical and dental attention our clients need, without creating budget shortfalls elsewhere.

The Medical Facts
Medical expenses for an individual with a developmental disability are four times greater than those for a person without a disability. These expenses quite often go beyond doctor appointments and medications to include adaptive equipment to allow full inclusion and participation in all aspects of life.
Health care maintenance to avoid secondary conditions and serve as a preventative measure also reduces the probability of needing more costly treatment in the future if left unchecked.
Therapies such as art, music, speech, occupational, water and therapeutic riding are valuable for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities growth physically, psychologically and socially. These therapies are not covered by any government funding, and the cost of providing them rests solely on Mosaic in Dallas.

The Dental Facts
People with disabilities often have more dental problems than those who do not have a disability. Cavities and gum disease are often seen in those who have problems brushing and flossing. Damage to the mouth or teeth can easily occur from falls or seizures. Side effects from medication can cause dry mouth or gum tissue problems. Teeth grinding from stress or anxiety can cause teeth to wear down or create mouth pain.
