About Us

Mosaic provides a life of possibilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. We help people define their own happiness. We support them and empower the pursuit of their goals. We celebrate their successes, even if that success is as simple as the pursuit itself.

In 1986, a group of parents, having heard of Bethphage's success, traveled to Nebraska to request Bethphage services in Texas. At that time, their children were residing in state schools, which were being closed down, or their children were graduating from public schools with nowhere to go for services. In August 1986, Bethphage opened four group homes in Dallas to provide residential services to 24 young adults.

In 2003, Bethphage consolidated with Martin Luther Homes to create Mosaic. In 2011, Mosaic in Dallas is celebrating 25 years of providing services to people with intellectual disabilities in the Dallas area. Mosaic in Dallas continues to be the provider of choice for more than 80 individuals with disabilities and their families through Dallas, Denton and Rockwall counties through a variety of individualized, community-based programs including 6-bed single sex group homes, supervised apartment living, in-home and family supports, host homes (foster care) and vocational/day services.

As part of Mosaic's commitment to provide quality care and services, the Dallas agency has received accreditation status through The Council on Quality and Leadership in Supports for People with Disabilities (CQL) for the past 16 years. The latest accreditation in 2007 from CQL for Mosaic in Dallas granted a 3-year accreditation with distinction. Mosaic in Dallas is the only agency in the state of Texas that has this accreditation.

Mosaic in Dallas continues to be innovative throughout the community and began a cost-effective, confidential document destruction business in August 2008.

November 2011 Volunteer Spotlight: Mazie Petree

What type of volunteer work do you do for Mosaic?
I come two days a week, about 3 hours each day. While I am there, I work on life skills and social skills with about 12 people. I'm giving the individuals positive attention while reinforcing skills.

What do you personally get out of volunteering for Mosaic?
It gives me great pleasure to get to know the people at Mosaic. By giving to them I receive more than I can ever give.

What have you enjoyed most about being a Mosaic volunteer?
How the Mosaic staff have helped me feel welcomed and needed. They have been informative and given support when it was needed.

Describe a positive interaction that you have had while volunteering for Mosaic.
There has been many, one is what I do with them after lunch. I like to get them up and moving by walking with our ribbons or we have a parachute that we exercise with. These two activities do several things. They bring smiles, interaction with each other, and helps digest lunch before going back to work.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your time at Mosaic?
I am so glad I found Mosaic. It is filling a void in my life. I used to work with this population and I needed this more then Mosaic needed my volunteering. I want to thank you!
