IRA and Retirement Plan Assets
IRA/Retirement Plan Assets
A gift of retirement assets leaves a powerful legacy and gives you and your heirs considerable income and estate tax savings. You can name Mosaic or a charitable remainder trust as the beneficiary of your qualified retirement plan such as an IRA, 401(k), 403 (b) or tax sheltered annuity (TSA) simply by filling out a form supplied by the custodian of your plan upon your request.
When you include your retirement plan assets as charitable gifts in your estate plan, you and your loved ones will receive significant benefits, including:
- Substantial tax savings - Estate, inheritance and income taxes would be eliminated on the value of the benefits paid to Mosaic. You would lessen the financial impact on the inheritance your family members would otherwise enjoy since they would lose perhaps more than 40% of any retirement plan benefits through payment of state and federal income tax and even more if your estate is subject to federal or state death taxes.
- Lifetime income for spouse or others - By naming a charitable remainder trust as beneficiary of your qualified plan, you can provide an income for your spouse or other loved ones. When rolled over to a charitable remainder trust, your retirement plan assets do not immediately incur income tax. The rollover provides income for your loves ones (although taxable); however, the amount ultimately received by Mosaic will not be subject to income tax.
- Flexibility - You can alter your charitable gift intentions prior to your death, if you wish.
- Joy of giving - When you name Mosaic to receive your retirement plan assets, you will give people with disabilities the opportunity to realize wholeness of life for generations to come.
Individuals who designate The Mosaic Foundation as the beneficiary of IRA/retirement plan assets become members of our Legacy Society, which recognizes those who embrace the mission of Mosaic by naming the organization as a beneficiary in their estate plans.
