New Homes to Open in Four Communitities in Nebraska
New residents' families grateful for Mosaic
The latest developments
The latest ground breaking for a new Mosaic home was held in York on July 7 for a new home to be constructed north of Epworth Village. Read local media coverage from the York News-Times.
Open houses were held in Omaha on April 28 and in Grand Island on May 5 for guardians of prospective residents as well as state service coordinators and other state workers and office holders. According to Mosaic's Nebraska Regional Vice President Tammy Westfall, the open house is a good opportunity for people to see what the state's partnership with Mosaic has created for people with intellectual disabilities.
The homes, located in Omaha at 5806 S. 147th St., and in Grand Island at 1517 Hope St., are the first of the newly-constructed homes Mosaic is opening in Nebraska communities as community-based living options for people who are currently residents of the Beatrice State Developmental Center.
Westfall called the project "a great opportunity to give people more options to choose what they want for their own lives and to frame their own dreams."

Happy in her New Home at Mosaic
For 23 years, Deb Ruda of Fremont was separated by miles and time from her daughter, Melanie Johnson, who was a resident at the Beatrice State Developmental Center. Now, with her daughter living in Mosaic housing that is just a few minutes away, Ruda could not be more pleased.
"I see her everyday," Ruda said. "I can see what she does every day. I feel like I am a lot more involved in her life."
Mosaic has committed to building 11 new homes across four communities in Nebraska over the next two years. The estimated total costs, including the land, home construction, furniture and equipment, hiring and training costs, and landscaping and decoration, are more than $11 million. Mosaic is seeking tax credit financing that will help defray some costs, but the more we are able to raise independently, the less interest debt we incur and the less we need to rely on public financing mechanisms.
