Tammy Westfall, Sen. Colby Coash and Norm Wallman, Linda Timmons, Councilwoman Jean Stothert, and Sen. Tim Gay break ground on Mosaic's new Omaha residence.

Mosaic broke ground July 13 on new construction of a six-bedroom home in the Stoneybrook neighborhood of Omaha at 5806 S. 147th St. The home is the first of four to be built in Omaha, and of 11 to be built across the state that will fill a critical need for expanded community-based living options for people with developmental disabilities who currently are residents of the Beatrice State Developmental Center.

Nebraska State Sens. Tim Gay, Norm Wallman, and Colby Coash joined Omaha Councilwoman Jean Stothert, Mosaic CEO Linda Timmons and Mosaic Nebraska Vice President Tammy Westfall in turning earth for the new home. Additional guests included representatives from Sens. Ben Nelson and Mike Johanns, and Rep. Lee Terry, as well as Jodi Fenner as Tricia Mason from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Mosaic executive Tammy Westfall called the project "a great opportunity to give people more options to choose what they want for their own lives and to frame their own dreams."

"This is an exciting time," said Sen. Gay. "When you're in government and politics, a lot of times we deal with some negatives. This is a really positive step."

In addition to additional homes that will be built later in Omaha, other homes will be built in Papillion, Norfolk, York, and Grand Island.
