Become an Advocate
MOSAIC ALLIED VOICES-MAV
Mosaic's Governmental Affairs Office has launched a volunteer-based initiative called Mosaic Allied Voices. This effort is designed to support our agencies in partnering with an organized group of community-based volunteers who will serve as advocates for and with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. MAV was developed in response to critical needs identified by Mosaic's senior leadership and aligns with the short- and long-term goals for Mosaic's strategic plan and its national legislative agenda. It is a core component to Governmental Affairs strategies.
MAV VOLUNTEERS RESPOND WHEN NEEDED
MAV Volunteers inform elected officials at local, state, and national levels of the needs and rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. MAV Volunteers receive action alerts from Mosaic asking them to call, write, or e-mail legislative representatives regarding their votes. They include parents, self-advocates, donors, advocates for people with disabilities, elected officials and others who want to have a voice in affecting public policy.
BECOME A MAV VOLUNTEER
Here is the job description for a MAV Volunteer:
Mosaic Allied Voices (MAV) volunteers
call or email elected officials in response to alerts from the Mosaic
Governmental Affairs Office. These alerts are about specific issues
that relate to people with intellectual disabilities. The alerts
contain brief, specific information about the issue and offer a
suggested message for MAV volunteers to use if they are uncertain of
what to say in their own words.
The time commitment is
minimal. Every MAV volunteer needs an email account to receive
alerts. The most important aspect of being a MAV volunteer is the
timeliness of the response. Legislative action is sometimes quick,
and action alerts may ask for an immediate response.
