A life of possibilities. We say that all the time at Mosaic.

The pomp of a graduation ceremony seems to speak the same thing: a life of possibilities.

Those possibilities are almost palpable for a number of people served by Mosaic as they achieve graduation milestones this time of year. With their families, they look toward the future with optimism and excitement.

People First

by Wendy Doyle and Lori Broady

About a year ago, all we knew was that we wanted to start a local chapter of the People First of Nebraska. With the help and dedication of many at Mosaic in Beatrice and Lori Broady, mother of Michelle Broady who Mosaic helps to support, this quickly took off. This is a self-advocay group run for and by people with intellectual disabilities. We never could have imagined the amount of individuals that have joined and become involved.

Advocacy at Mosaic maybe an ongoing labor, but for Ron Oates, it’s a labor of love.

“I wholeheartedly support the work Mosaic does,” Oates said of his nearly 10-year relationship with Mosaic in Beatrice. “I’ve seen the care, compassion and love given to each and every person.”

Oates’s relationship with Mosaic began in 2006, when his brother-in-law Steve Wilcox came to Mosaic.

“He loved it here,” Oates said.
