Our History

The Pontiac Agency was created in 1982 as part of Martin Luther Homes (a legacy organization of Mosaic). A county wide task force had determined that there was a need for community-based residential services in Livingston County in central Illinois. At about the same time, the parents of a person residing at the Martin Luther Homes campus in Beatrice, Neb., were trying to convince the Martin Luther Homes Board of Directors that it was time to expand services beyond the state of Nebraska. When the parents and the Livingston County Task force joined forces, history was made.

Originally the Pontiac agency provided residential services in a large home in Pontiac. The program was regulated by the Intermediate Care Facility/Mental Retardation (ICF/MR) regulations.

Since the beginning of providing services in the Livingston County area, the agency has had a close relationship with the congregation at First Lutheran Church in Pontiac. Members of that congregation volunteered many hours and assisted with the building of the agency's first Community Integrated Living Arrangements (CILA) home in Pontiac.

Since that time, the agency has constructed an additional three CILA homes in Pontiac and two CILA homes in Dwight, about 20 miles north of Pontiac.

In October 2006, the Agency received a grant from the Illinois Housing Development Authority to build a new home in Pontiac. This home will include four, two-person apartments.
