Still Looking Ahead

Mosaic will soon begin its fifth year of operation. It has been an incredible journey. So many good things have happened in
the last four years and so many more are certain to come in the future.

Mosaic has achieved a higher level of quality of its services than was experienced by either Bethphage or Martin Luther Homes. More people are being helped each year. Administrative efficiencies hoped for in the creation of Mosaic have been realized. We are truly opening doors to extraordinary lives for all involved with Mosaic.

This is a good time to thank many of you who have been so loyal in supporting us with your gifts. It is difficult to accept, but we actually lost supporters from both of our legacy organizations because we changed our name. We also lost some support from people who believed we had grown too big. That was disappointing but true.

The discussion that led to the consolidation of Bethphage and Martin Luther Homes always focused on what is best for the people we serve. That has always been foremost in our thoughts. How can we provide the best quality services, be a strong voice of advocacy, and remain faithful to the mission of our founders? I think we have done a good job on all three of those areas.

The mission of our founders is strong in Mosaic today. Their desire was to provide new and better alternatives for people with disabilities and for people who were forgotten and marginalized. I am happy to say that spirit is alive in Mosaic today. We're still looking ahead, finding new ways, offering better alternatives.

I was happy to announce in March that Linda Timmons will succeed me as President and Chief Executive Officer of Mosaic on July 1, 2008. Although that is a year away, it is an important step for Mosaic. We have put a strong emphasis on succession planning for Mosaic leadership. It is a part of our long-term strategic planning that will continue to place Mosaic at the forefront of service providers. We believe that the quality of our services and the strength of our
advocacy, combined with our commitment to stewardship, is a model for others to follow.

When Linda Timmons assumes the helm of Mosaic next year, please know that I am not leaving Mosaic. Beginning at Martin Luther Homes in the 1970s through Bethphage and now Mosaic, I have been with this organization for more than 32 years. It has been my professional and spiritual life. I will continue as the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Mosaic Foundation.

I believe that there are untapped opportunities to create income sources to financially sustain Mosaic long into the future. I also believe it is essential to seek new ways to supplement the resources we receive from our government. The energy that I have devoted to moving Mosaic to the forefront as a quality service provider will now be focused on Mosaic's private funding sources.

Please pray for Mosaic and for all who work so diligently to create better lives for others. Great things have been accomplished. Even greater things are coming! Thank you for being a partner in this ministry.
