Ann Savory is known simply as "Ann the Nurse" at Mosaic in Dallas. To the 30 men and women who receive services through Mosaic's ICF-MR residential group homes, Ann the Nurse is a friend, a confidant, a mother, a sister, and an advocate, but most importantly she is a caring, committed and compassionate nurse.
In her own words …
"I came to the agency in 1988. I never thought that I would still be working at the same agency 18 years later. I stay because of the people that I care for. The stability I provide and the relationships that I have with the people at Mosaic are important to me. Every person needs to be listened to and given the respect of a few minutes of my time. The relationships I have with the families and medical providers and our partnerships ensure the best medical health for those we serve because every person deserves to be as healthy as they can be.
"I care about what happens when we are out in the community and about the level of care we receive at medical and dental appointments. When we are at appointments people will sometimes ask where we are from. I know that community members and doctors are impressed by the interactions, care and support Mosaic provides. One day we may be supporting and advocating for their relative or client.
"Over the years, my job has changed. What I do as it relates to the people I care for hasn't changed, but what the state requires as additional paperwork and reports has changed. However, I refuse to alter the level of care that I provide. I know that sometimes the hours I work may cause people to become upset with me but if I have to work seven days a week to make sure that people's needs are met, I will."
