The Mosaic Collaborative

Our Main Thing

To inspire a new movement toward quality of life for people with disabilities,
their families and those who support them.

We envision a time when full and equitable inclusion and integration of people with disabilities and their families is present in every community.

We do this by devoting our resources to three key areas of focus:

  • Research -- provide objective, non-partisan data and analyses on critical disability issues and provide evidence-based recommendations for best practices.

  • Learning Opportunities -- provide learning opportunities for college students and professionals to partner with experts in the field to gain a working knowledge of and help advance disability programs, issues, public policy, and advocacy.

  • Public Policy -- serve as a catalyst for innovative pilot and demonstration projects that bring key stakeholders and community partners together on common issues with the intent of creating solutions that are realistic, attainable, and meaningful for people who have disabilities, their families, and those who support them.

Background

#
In 2006, Mosaic committed to create a new approach to advocacy and public policy issues around the globe as they relate to persons with disabilities. The concept was formulated with the purpose of building project-based partnerships to guide the vision and direction of our work.

By August 2007, Mosaic established the Mosaic Collaborative for Disabilities Public Policy and Practice. We chose the word "Collaborative" to represent the cooperative nature of our work. It is only through local, national, and global partnerships that the vision for full inclusion and integration of people with disabilities and their families in their communities can be achieved.

Partnerships

The Mosaic Collaborative works with a diverse group of partners around the world to promote social justice for people who have disabilities. Working together, Mosaic and our partners contribute their expertise, resources, and time to change the way policies and practices are shaped when it concerns disability issues.

Mosaic seeks partners who are committed to contributing to local, state, national or international projects that result in evidence-based solutions. The information learned from these projects is intended to be used to replicate best practices as well as advocate for improved public policies for people with disabilities, their families, and those who provide supports.

The Mosaic Collaborative builds partnerships on a project-by-project basis. We partner with a wide range of groups, including advocacy organizations, trade associations, colleges and universities, non-profit and for-profit organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders. Having a shared common goal that helps advance a particular disability issue or project is central to every partnership.

Research projects with universities, joint publications with advocacy organizations, demonstration projects with states, and internship placements for college students are some of the ways in which the Mosaic Collaborative has worked with others to provide evidence-based solutions for individuals, families, professionals in the disabilities field, and policymakers.
