25th Anniversary Celebration

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of providing services in northeast Iowa through Mosaic in Waukon, and our history is both compelling and heartwarming. The story of our local agency starts in 1986, although the very beginning takes us back almost a century ago in the state of Nebraska when services for people with disabilities first became available.

Here in Waukon, a group of progressive citizens recognized the need and began the steps that culminated in services offered to individuals with intellectual disabilities in a home setting. That home is the flagship property known as the Alamakee Street House. Since that time, Mosaic has expanded and now offers services at multiple home sites in both Waukon and Decorah, Iowa.

Mosaic celebrated March as National Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Month

Each year, Mosaic in Waukon celebrates March as National Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

This observance reminds us to recognize people with disabilities as valuable, contributing members of our communities. Throughout the month of March we will be speaking about the concept of Inclusion; which is about living full lives and about living together as a community.

You can make a difference by inviting people with disabilities to participate in your community activities and/or civic organizations. You can become more informed by following our anniversary celebrations, make a gift or contact us for additional opportunities. Include someone with a disability in your life today.
