New Charitable Gift Annuity Rates take effect July 1, 2008
The American Council on Gift Annuities is lowering rates, effective July 1, 2008. To ensure that you receive the maximum benefit from your giving, please establish your Charitable Gift Annuity today.
A charitable gift annuity is an irrevocable agreement between you and Mosaic offered through The Mosaic Foundation. A charitable gift annuity with The Mosaic Foundation combines the best of charitable giving and sound investing.
In exchange for your gift of cash or appreciated property, you will receive fixed payments for the rest of your life, and upon your death Mosaic will use the remaining funds to carry out its mission.
Some of the many benefits to you include:
- Income tax deduction - Because a charitable gift annuity is partly a gift and partly an investment in an annuity contract, a large portion of what you transfer is a deductible charitable gift.
- Attractive rates - Your annuity payout rate, which is based on your age at the time you make the gift, is likely to be higher than many traditional investments. Like most charitable organizations, The Mosaic Foundation uses rates established by the American Council on Gift Annuities.
- Fixed payments for one or two lives - You will receive guaranteed payments for your life. If you have a two-life gift annuity, payments continue to your survivor beneficiary for life. You may choose the convenience of electronic funds transfers for your payments.
- Tax-free income - A portion of your annuity payment is tax free for a period of years.
- Capital gains tax savings - If you fund your gift annuity with appreciated stock, you can bypass a portion of the applicable capital gain tax.
- Estate tax savings - A gift made now reduces the size of your estate and possibly reduces estate tax and probate costs.
- Deferred payment option - Mosaic offers deferred charitable gift annuities that are ideal if you are making plans for your retirement income. A deferred gift annuity provides the benefits listed above, but defers payments to a date set by the donor, usually at retirement age. By deferring gift annuity payments for at least one year, your initial tax deduction and eventual periodic payout will be much higher.
Individuals who enter into a charitable gift annuity agreement with The Mosaic Foundation become members of our Legacy Society, which recognizes those who embrace the mission of Mosaic by naming the organization as a beneficiary in their estate plans.
