Medicaid Cuts Put People with Disabilities at Risk

In the weeks and months to come, we urge Congress to reject any legislation seeking to cut Medicaid and put people with disabilities and other Americans at risk.

Earlier this week, President Trump released his first budget plan, proposing drastic cuts to services millions of Americans with disabilities and their families rely on each and every day.

The budget would cut Medicaid by up to $600 billion over 10 years, on top of the $800 billion in cuts proposed by the American Health Care Act (AHCA). This amounts to slashing Medicaid by $1.3 trillion, nearly half of the program’s budget.

These cuts could be devastating to the 10 million Americans with disabilities who rely on Medicaid funding to meet basic needs like health care, nutrition, transportation and much more.

Additional cuts to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and other poverty relief programs will it make it even harder for people with disabilities to pay for housing, food, and other basic essentials. It puts extreme stress on people with disabilities and the families, caregivers, and communities who support them.

In the weeks and months to come, we urge Congress to reject any legislation seeking to cut Medicaid and put people with disabilities and other Americans at risk.
