With Passion and Perseverance, We Find A Way
Angela Duckworth, author of Grit, defines grit as “passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day-in, day-out. Not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years. And working really hard to make that future a reality.”
If that statement doesn’t define the people we serve and those who serve here at Mosaic, I’m not sure what does – which is why Grit has been adopted as one of our core values.
We’ve been supporting people for more than a century because of the passionate women and men who have a heart for this work.
- Passionate leaders, who care deeply for our mission during their tenure and leave it stronger than when they found it, ready for the next generation of faithful servants to carry the torch.
- Passionate direct support professionals (DSPs), who answer the call to love and serve 365 days a year, working on the front lines and mirroring the grit of the people they empower.
We have passionate people at our core, but we also have perseverance, the second key ingredient to a gritty organization.
To be gritty is to keep putting one foot in front of the other. To be gritty is to hold fast to a purposeful goal. To be gritty is to invest, day after week after year. To be gritty is to fall down seven times and rise eight.
This description of grit is reflected both in the people we support and the foundational principles of our organization.
Perseverance for long-term goals is really what Mosaic’s all about. We provide long-term services and supports to people with diverse needs. We are in it for the long haul because each person’s definition of a meaningful life is ever-evolving.
The people we support show grit every day in pursuing their goals and dreams, and we have always endeavored to match that grit.
One look at Mosaic’s history shows a determined organization that never gives up and finds a way to fulfill our mission regardless of obstacles. Over the decades, we have persevered through times of uncertainty, making bold decisions and nimbly responding to change.
Our current environment is no different. Our industry is rapidly changing, and we’re being asked to do more with less. But we will find a way, like we always do, because we have Grit.
