Mosaic in Dallas

Dear friends,

Spring is in the air! The flowers are blooming and spring is well under way. For me, this time of year serves as a reminder of the work at Mosaic. There are times when we get so involved and invested in the work we do to provide the best services possible that we forget to stop, smell the roses, and remember why we do what we do – the people we serve.

It takes a special heart to do the work that our direct support staff does. One particular staff member that stands out is Nash, who works in one of our men’s group homes. Nash started with Mosaic seven years ago, and quickly noticed that one of the men, named Butch, had no family members come and visit him.

Less than half a mile from Mosaic is Operation Kindness, North Texas’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption center.

Mosaic individuals have a long history of volunteering at Operation Kindness, providing much needed love to the animals.

A new collaboration has recently been established between these two Dallas non-profits.

The Vocational Center at Mosaic has offered to make cat and dog toys to be given away whenever a pet gets adopted.

Scott Spitler is one of those people you never forget.

When Scott isn’t traveling the world, working or participating in events at Highland Park United Methodist Church, you can find him expressing himself through performance art.

As a member of Jesters (a performing arts group for Special Needs adults), Scott has been in seven original productions on stage, once playing a super hero called Fly Guy.

Local songwriter Bill Cox recently met Scott and was inspired to write a song about him.

Dallas was recently named one of the top 10 Most Charitable Cities in the country, and it’s no wonder when you see all of the support Mosaic receives from community members.

In December, we kicked off our Annual Holiday Helping Hands drive, where churches and community leaders supply Christmas gifts for Mosaic group homes.

It was a banner year for Holiday Helping Hands. Christmas Wish Lists for 55 people were fulfilled, and over 250 gifts were donated with the help of more than eight local churches.
