Promise ‘Advocacy Issue’ Highlights The Faces of Medicaid
Medicaid allows almost 80 million Americans to obtain healthcare. In our newest issue of Promise magazine—our Advocacy Issue—we put a personal face on Medicaid and what it means to parents and the people Mosaic supports. These are real people, with real needs, hopes and dreams.
Now, more than ever before, we’re urging our state and national leaders to consider the devastating impact that cuts to Medicaid funding would have on people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, aging adults and others with diverse needs, people like Eric Schwarz.
Eric has been with Mosaic in Beatrice for 32 years. Dan, Eric’s father, said he’s not sure what kind of life Eric would have had without Mosaic. Eric is described as friendly and outgoing. He loves to talk with anyone he meets and his days are “pretty busy.”
We also share stories of a blossoming friendship between two women Mosaic supports in Kansas, a mom of four who says Medicaid is necessary to afford her son’s feeding supplies, and a Colorado Home Coordinator who doesn’t know what her family would do without the supports provided by Mosaic through Medicaid.
Finally, there’s an informational piece about how the program works and what cuts would mean for the essential services people with intellectual and developmental disabilities receive, information we hope will inspire you to “Be Bold” and lend your voice as a Mosaic Allied Voices advocate.
