July 1 is One Mosaic Day!

On July 1, 2003, Mosaic was formed by the consolidation of Bethphage and Martin Luther Homes. History tells us that the two first talked about working together in the 1940s, but it took nearly 60 years for it to happen. In the intervening years, they remained cooperative, yet competitive organizations.

Joining as one made sense. Both organizations had been around since the early 1900s, and both were based in Nebraska. Both were affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and served the same population. In several cities, they even provided services across town (or across the street).

In 2020, July 1 also became known to the organization as One Mosaic Day. In response to the challenges suddenly arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the multi-state network of Mosaic locations proved valuable in sharing expertise and resources to battle the pandemic. So, on July 1 that year, One Mosaic Day was born to recognize both the history of that date since 2003 and to celebrate the organization’s united work to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other diverse needs experience more full lives.

A theme has been built each year, and for three years it has been one of Mosaic’s values. This year’s theme is built on the value of Faithfulness. The theme is: Faithfully serving. All day. Every day. For more than a century. All employees and Mosaic at Home providers across the country received T-shirts with the theme and were asked to share photos of themselves in the shirts to depict the diversity of Mosaic’s workforce and locations. Here are a few fun examples.

Happy One Mosaic Day!
