Possibilities in Western Colorado

By Kelly Britton
Executive Director, Western Colorado

From the Executive Director

I’ like to share the results of our Partners in Possibilities fundraiser. This year, thanks to the incredible support and generosity of our community, we raised more than $26,000! This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication and commitment of everyone involved with Mosaic in Western Colorado.

Our fundraiser isn’t just about the money; it’s about shining a light on the incredible stories and journeys of the individuals we support. One story that really touched us was Hannah’s. Her journey is a powerful example of how support, compassion and inclusion can truly change lives.

During the event, Hannah’s dad David shared her story, reminding us of the profound impact Mosaic has on the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. David talked about how, through Mosaic, Hannah found the best caregivers for her—her parents! His words really hit home for everyone in attendance, highlighting the importance of our mission and the difference we make in the lives of those we serve.

During our second annual May the 4th Be With You event. We faced some challenges with the wind being pretty stubborn that day, but we didn’t let it dampen our spirits. Despite the gusts, the sense of community remained strong.

We were delighted to have Armando’s food truck join us, adding a delicious touch to the festivities. Despite the windy conditions, the tacos, nachos and quesadillas were a hit, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces and showcasing the spirit of togetherness.

As we look back on these events, let’s take a moment to celebrate our achievements and also learn from the challenges we faced. Together, we can continue to build a supportive and inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Here’s a huge “thank you” to all our supporters for your unwavering commitment to our cause. Your generosity and kindness truly make a difference.

Caring Community: Brian

Brian has resided in his host home for just over a year and has forged a deep bond with his Home Provider Sara. Despite his difficulty in conventional communication due to severe hearing impairment, Brian has developed his own form of sign language. Sara has devoted herself to understanding and adapting to his unique means of expression, fostering a strong sense of trust between them. Recently, they embarked on a thrilling journey to Las Vegas to fulfill one of Brian’s lifelong dreams: witnessing a NASCAR race. The experience left Brian overjoyed. Looking ahead, he eagerly anticipates this summer, as he and Sara have planned a UTV adventure in Moab. Equipped with his own UTV, Brian can’t wait to get out and drive it!

Giving a Voice: Alysa

Alysa and her family are valued members of our Mosaic at Home community, with her brother Jason serving as her primary caregiver. Living at home with her brother and her mother Delores, Alysa radiates warmth and positivity. Her expressive nature, marked by her profound emotions and compassionate heart, fills any room with joy. Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, Alysa delights in sharing stories and laughter with her caregivers. She eagerly participates in a day program through Community Options four days a week, relishing her downtime by snuggling up in her recliner with her dog and indulging in drama shows.

Beyond her love for television dramas, Alysa loves spending time at her family’s cabin. Despite using sign language to communicate, Alysa’s enthusiasm for life knows no bounds. She actively engages in a sewing group at her day program, generously sharing her skills with fellow members.

A devoted Rockies fan, Alysa’s enthusiasm for baseball is out of the park. Charlie Blackmon reigns as her favorite player and pen pal, and they exchange letters a few times each year. Her room is adorned with memorabilia honoring her beloved team.

In addition to her passion for sports and sewing, Alysa finds fulfillment in baking alongside her sister and attending her nephew’s football and basketball games, cheering him on with support. Alysa’s family provides her with abundant opportunities to embrace life fully and pursue her passions, enriching her journey every step of the way.

Meaningful Life: Loretta

Loretta resides with Dan and Bob, with Dan serving as her family caregiver. Loretta embarked on a journey to improve her health by setting a goal to lose weight, with the promise of a trip to Disneyland as her reward upon achievement. Through diligent efforts in monitoring her food intake and regular walks, she successfully shed more than 50 pounds. Loretta delighted in her Disneyland adventure spending moments with loved ones and experiencing the thrill of riding attractions.

Loretta remains committed to her health journey and aims to maintain her progress and further her weight loss goals. She takes pleasure in treating herself to new clothes, as she continues to prioritize her well-being. Loretta’s determination and positivity serve as an inspiration to all who know her.

Employee Spotlight: Celicia

Celicia was hired in January as an Independent Contract Program Supervisor and hit the ground running. She and her supervisor Patricia have been working on rewriting approximately 40 supported community connection programs to make them more personalized for people served. This will allow our team to better support people served and help them reach their goals and dreams over the next year. She also helped out sharing our mission at a recent Adaptive night in Montrose. Thank you Celicia for all the work you do for people served!
