Empowering People in Delaware

Real life. Real possibilities.

Empowering People in Delaware

By Shavonne Brathwaite
Executive Director, Mosaic in Delaware

Whether you’re deeply connected to Mosaic or new to our caring community, I’d like to take this opportunity to reintroduce you to our mission.

Embracing God’s call, Mosaic relentlessly pursues opportunities that empower people.

Relentlessly pursuing opportunities has led Mosaic to provide a wide spectrum of services for people throughout our 106-year history, and we have no plans of stopping this pursuit any time soon.

As executive director over the state, I hope to use this statewide newsletter to share updates on the opportunities we are pursuing at Mosaic and stories of the people we’ve empowered.

Thanks to you – our donors, partners, family and friends – people in 15 communities right here Delaware are empowered to live more satisfying lives and experience as much independence as they choose.

A few highlights include:

  • Growth and specialization around supporting people with autism and those with high behavioral needs. We continue to lead the way in ensuring that people can take fewer medications and live in the least restrictive environment.
  • Developing a testing program that allows us to determine what types of sensory interventions help people who struggle with environmental issues.
  • Adding five homes in the last few years and expanding our behavioral supports from serving five people to serving nearly 100 today. We can’t grow fast enough for the state!
  • Continued focus on helping the people we support share their stories with elected officials, staff and community members.

While much has changed in the healthcare landscape in the last five years, our commitment to the people we support in the state of Delaware remains.

We will continue to provide new services and options to empower the more than 143 people we support.

We do this by:

  • Building partnerships with community organizations and churches that welcome the people we support to participate.
  • Collaborating with employers to help the people we serve find work opportunities.
  • Advocating with government officials and regulators to make sure people’s rights are protected and to ensure that life-saving services are appropriately funded.
  • Friend and fundraising to help bridge the gap between what’s funded and what it takes to live a meaningful life.

It takes faithfulness, grit and a community of people connecting with each other to make sure all can belong. Thank you for making possibilities a reality in Delaware!
