Mosaic in Colorado Springs

Throughout the year, we always have a few large events where we invite everyone who makes our mission possible to attend and get to know each other. Such events include donors, volunteers, church representatives, advocates, community partners, ambassadors, staff, people in services, family members and host home providers.

This year’s Christmas Celebration on Dec. 6 at Ascension Lutheran Church was a huge success. More than 100 people, including many people in service, their families and direct support professionals enjoyed the evening.

We served everyone lunch – an all you can eat buffet of spaghetti and meatballs, salad, and garlic bread. Expanding Minds Unlimited brought a karaoke machine and many of their animals for people to give a perch and a cuddle.

Each person Mosaic supports received gifts from members of First Lutheran Church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, and St. Luke Lutheran Church and local business owners generously donated door prizes for every attendee. Members of Black Forest Lutheran donated all of the decorations and a full-size Christmas tree!

This year was particularly special because staff were able to celebrate and focus on helping people from our programs have a good time instead of running the event. Several volunteers took charge of the meal, setting up, manning the activity stations, and breaking down the room at the end.

Additionally, some of the people we serve had the opportunity to watch a holiday show at Simpich Showcase in Old Colorado City, thanks to one of our generous donors.

Looking at the museum, we were all mesmerized by the detail of the puppets and the depicted storylines. This is not the type of activity that comes along every day and we were grateful for the opportunity to see the Simpich artistry in motion.

We can’t wait to start planning next year’s celebrations. Our next big event will be in the Spring, so keep an eye on our Facebook page for announcements.
