Mosaic is partnering with two other local nonprofits on an art series designed to include people with intellectual disabilities in community life.

The monthly “Empower Hour with the Arts” – presented in conjunction with Benson Theatre and WhyArts – kicked off on Thursday, June 7 at The B Side of Benson Theatre. The sessions will include coffee, conversation and an art experience led by a WhyArts teaching artist. The Empower Hour with the Arts series is made possible with support from the Omaha Downtown Rotary Club.

A dream became a reality at the Inclusion Matters picnic on May 18 at Mahoney State Park.

Kevin Miller always wanted to ride a motorcycle. After learning there were going to be motorcycle rides at the picnic, Kevin was ecstatic! He came prepared with his own helmet and a huge smile.

The driver and owner of the motorcycle, Joe Garcia, was anxious to give Kevin his ride.

“We have been talking about doing this for a long time, and I’m just so thrilled that it’s finally happening,” Garcia said.

Mosaic in Omaha hosted an Inclusion Matters picnic on Friday, May 18 at Mahoney State Park.

More than 300 people joined the event which included a BBQ buffet, paddle boats, mini-golf and motorcycle sidecar rides for the people served by Mosaic.

The event was an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate inclusion.

“Our mission is about providing a life of opportunities and fulfilling dreams,” said Roxanne Roman, Executive Director of Mosaic in Omaha and Lincoln. “That’s what we do every day at Mosaic, and that’s what the picnic was all about.”

Dear Mosaic Family,

My name is Nic Batterton; I joined the Mosaic team at the beginning of February as Omaha’s new Associate Director.

My compassion for helping people began as a child. As early as fourth grade, I regularly volunteered to take people to recess with me, and I spent my young adulthood advocating for those who were suppressed by societal norms.

"A life of possibilities" is more than a tagline, it's what we do. We see people with intellectual disabilities as unique and gifted and want to make sure that they have the chance to live the best life possible.

Our frontline staff are at the heart of helping the people we support reach their needs, goals and dreams. We're always looking for passionate, caring individuals to fill these roles.

If you're looking for meaningful work, we'd love to chat with you.

Everyone deserves to feel welcome and included in their hometown. Unfortunately, there are barriers that often prevent the people we support from participating.

Mosaic in Omaha strives to create a meaningful life for each person we serve. This is often accomplished through partnerships with like-minded organizations.

In June of 2017, Rev. James Lindberg, pastor at Living Grace Lutheran Church in Omaha, attended a Discover the Possibilities event. Pastor Lindberg was moved by the  Mission of Mosaic, and he felt the members of his church could help make a difference in the lives of the people being served at the Omaha agency.

On December 19, a group of people in service and Mosaic staff delivered 305 pounds of clothing, blankets, non-perishable food and other items to Open Door Mission. We also delivered eight large boxes full of pet food, blankets and towels to the Nebraska Humane Society. Mosaic in Omaha is very grateful for everything we receive from the community and wanted to give back.

There’s no question that Omaha is a caring community. Time and time again we’ve seen the people of Omaha come together to make our community a great place to live. Over the last couple of months, Mosaic in Omaha has directly benefited from this caring community.

On October 4, Skutt Catholic High School held its annual Community Involvement Day. This is a day where the entire school goes out into the community and volunteers their time wherever needed to make a difference. It’s all about raising awareness of the needs in our community.
